Description:

Tell Me What Happened: Skills for Professionals on How to Talk to Kids is a specialized presentation designed for School Resource Officers who may interact with children who spontaneously disclose abuse. This training aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to respond effectively and appropriately.
Key learning objectives include:
•    Understanding the process of disclosure 
•    Identifying common barriers to disclosure
•    Learning best practices on when and how to conduct minimal facts interviews 
•    Practicing techniques for gathering sufficient minimal fact information for an effective report without compromising an investigation.
•    Gaining an understanding of how the minimal facts interview fits into the larger multidisciplinary team approach and the role of Children's Advocacy Centers in supporting child victims.
 

Who Should Attend?

School resource officers, law enforcement officers


Partial In-service Credit:

Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for law enforcement will be offered. 
 

Cost and Registration:

There is no fee to attend this training. Registration for this training will be on Benchmark. 
Pre-registration is required. 
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.

Transportation, lodging, and meals are the responsibility of the participant.
