The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Advanced Narcotics Investigations” training.
Course Description:
This training is designed for drug, criminal, and fugitive investigators or analysts who want to use cutting-edge techniques, technology, and intelligence resources to advance their cases. While the course primarily focuses on investigations with a drug nexus, nearly all techniques can (and should) be applied to virtually all types of cases. Case studies will be presented, highlighting these techniques in practice.
Topics to be Covered Include:
- Proactive investigation methods
- Telephone exploitation techniques (including obtaining records, analysis, mapping, deconfliction, and utilizing pens/pings)
- Utilizing social media and IP addresses
- License Plate Readers (LPRs)
- Wiretap basics
- Intelligence development and tracking
- Asset forfeiture/drug tax
- Investigating targets when you do not have an informant
- Utilizing resources from Federal and State agencies
Who Should Attend:
This training is only available to sworn law enforcement.
Partial In-service Credit:
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for Virginia law enforcement officers will be available.
Travel, Lodging, and Meals:
Transportation, lodging and meals are the responsibility of the participant.
Training Time and Details:
Sign-in begins at 7:45 am
Training begins at 8:00 am and concludes at 5:00 pm
Cost and Registration:
There is no fee to attend this training; however, pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
